Description
This Strawberry Cheesecake Dump Cake is soft, creamy, and full of bright strawberry flavor with a buttery cake mix topping that bakes up beautifully crisp. The cream cheese layer adds a rich cheesecake-style finish, making this an easy dessert that tastes far more special than the effort it takes.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 – 15 ounce cans of Strawberry pie filling
- 8 ounces of Cream cheese, softened
- 1 Large egg
- ¼ cup Granulated sugar
- 1 package of Vanilla, white, or yellow cake mix
- ½ cup Cold salted butter
- Fresh strawberries for serving, optional
Instructions
- Heat the oven and prepare the pan.
Set your oven to 350°F and let it fully preheat. Lightly ready a 9×13-inch baking dish so it is waiting for the filling layers. - Spread in the strawberry base.
Pour the strawberry pie filling into the bottom of the baking dish. Use a spatula or the back of a spoon to spread it into an even layer that reaches the corners. - Make the cream cheese mixture.
Add the softened cream cheese, egg, and granulated sugar to a medium mixing bowl. Beat everything together with a hand mixer or stand mixer until the mixture looks smooth, pale, and fully blended. Scrape down the bowl if needed so there are no streaks of cream cheese left behind. - Place the cream cheese over the fruit.
Spoon the cream cheese mixture over the strawberry layer in scattered dollops. Try to distribute it evenly across the surface. It does not need to be perfect, but spacing it out well helps the cheesecake flavor reach every serving. - Add the dry cake mix.
Open the box of cake mix and sprinkle it evenly over the strawberry and cream cheese layers. Aim for a consistent layer so the butter can melt across the top evenly. - Cover the top with thin butter slices.
Take the cold butter and slice it very thinly. Arrange the slices over the cake mix so as much of the dry surface as possible is covered. This step matters because the butter helps the topping bake into a crisp, golden layer instead of staying powdery. - Bake until bubbly and golden.
Place the dish in the oven and bake for about 40 to 45 minutes. The top should turn golden brown, and the strawberry filling should bubble around the edges. If you notice a few dry spots on top near the end, you can drizzle on a little melted butter and return it to the oven for a few more minutes. - Rest before serving.
Remove the dump cake from the oven and let it sit for about 15 minutes. This gives the layers time to settle and makes serving easier. - Serve and enjoy.
Serve warm or cooled. Add fresh strawberries on top if you like, or finish each serving with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for an extra treat.
Notes
- Keep the butter cold so it slices cleanly and covers the topping more easily.
- If the top still looks a little dry after baking, a small drizzle of melted butter can fix it.
- This dessert can sit at room temperature for a couple of days, though refrigerating it is a better option for longer storage.
- White, vanilla, or yellow cake mix all work nicely here.
