Description
A bold and irresistible pizza layered with creamy ricotta, savory sausage, melted cheese, and finished with a drizzle of hot honey for the perfect sweet-heat balance.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 round pizza dough (about 12 inches)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella
- ½ cup ricotta cheese
- ½ pound sausage, cooked and crumbled
- ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)
- 2 tablespoons hot honey (plus extra for finishing)
- Fresh basil leaves
- Salt and black pepper
Instructions
- Prepare Your Base: Start by heating your oven to 475°F (245°C). If you own a pizza stone, place it inside the oven while it preheats so it gets properly hot. On a lightly floured surface, stretch or roll your dough into a 12-inch circle. Transfer it onto a lightly oiled baking sheet or parchment-lined tray.
- Create the Foundation: Lightly brush olive oil over the surface of the dough. This step ensures a golden, crisp crust once baked. Evenly distribute the shredded mozzarella across the dough, making sure to leave about an inch around the edges uncovered for the crust.
- Add the Toppings: Using a spoon, drop small portions of ricotta across the pizza. Spread them out so each slice gets a bit of creamy texture. Next, sprinkle the cooked sausage evenly over the top. Make sure the sausage is well-browned beforehand to enhance flavor and texture.
- Season and Balance: Sprinkle red pepper flakes across the pizza for a subtle heat. Add a light pinch of salt and black pepper to enhance the overall taste without overpowering the toppings.
- Bake the Pizza: Place the pizza into the oven and bake for about 10–13 minutes. Keep an eye on it—the crust should turn golden brown, and the cheese should be fully melted with slight browning on top.
- Finish with Honey and Herbs: Once baked, remove the pizza from the oven immediately. Drizzle hot honey generously over the top while it’s still hot so it blends into the cheese and sausage. Garnish with fresh basil leaves for a fresh, aromatic finish.
