Ingredients
Scale
- 1 roll refrigerated chocolate chip cookie dough, about 16.5 ounces
- 1 cup caramel sauce
- 1 cup chopped pecans
- 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
Instructions
- Prepare the oven and pan.
Set the oven to 350°F. Lightly grease a 9×13-inch glass casserole dish so the bars do not stick and lift out more easily later. - Build the base layer.
Press roughly two-thirds of the cookie dough evenly into the bottom of the prepared dish. Work it out into a smooth, even layer so it forms the crust for the bars. - Add the caramel.
Pour the caramel sauce over the dough and spread it gently across the surface. Leave a small border around the edges to help keep the caramel from bubbling out while baking. - Add the topping.
Sprinkle the chopped pecans and semisweet chocolate chips evenly over the caramel layer so every square gets plenty of flavor and texture. - Finish with the remaining dough.
Tear off small pieces of the rest of the cookie dough and scatter them across the top of the pan. They do not need to cover the whole surface evenly; the uneven bits create a nice rustic look once baked. - Bake.
Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the edges are lightly crisp. The center should look set and baked through. - Cool completely.
Let the bars rest in the dish until fully cooled so the caramel can firm up. For the cleanest slices, chill the pan for about 30 minutes after cooling, then cut into squares and serve.
