Description
This Cinnamon Sugar Donut Bread tastes like a soft, bakery-style quick bread with the sweet, spiced finish of a classic sugar donut.
Ingredients
Scale
Bread
- 2 cups (250 g) all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ cups (300 g) granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 ¼ cups (306 g) whole milk
- 1 large egg, room temperature
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
Spiced Sugar Coating
- ¼ cup (½ stick / 57 g) unsalted butter, melted
- ½ cup (100 g) granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
Instructions
- Heat the oven to 350°F and spray an 8 ½ x 4 ½-inch loaf pan with nonstick cooking spray so the bread releases cleanly after baking.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt until evenly combined.
- In a second bowl, whisk the milk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract until the mixture looks smooth and fully blended.
- Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir gently just until the batter comes together. Stop as soon as you no longer see dry flour. The batter should stay somewhat loose, so do not worry if it looks a little runny.
- Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and spread it into an even layer.
- Bake for 60 to 70 minutes, or until the top turns golden and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
- Remove the loaf from the oven and let it rest in the pan for about 10 minutes. This short cooling period helps the bread set before you transfer it.
- Carefully lift the bread out of the pan and set it on a large sheet of parchment paper.
- While the loaf is still warm, brush the top and sides generously with the melted butter for the coating.
- In a small bowl, stir together the granulated sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg until the spices are evenly distributed.
- Sprinkle the sugar mixture all over the buttered bread, turning the loaf as needed so the coating reaches every side. Press gently if needed so the topping sticks well.
- Use any leftover sugar mixture later if you have it, then let the loaf cool slightly before slicing and serving.
Notes
For the softest texture, use whole milk and mix the batter only until combined. That keeps Cinnamon Sugar Donut Bread tender and moist.
