Description
Cheddar Bay Hamburger Casserole is a hearty, cheesy baked dinner with seasoned beef, creamy sauce, and a golden biscuit topping. It is a family-friendly comfort meal that comes together fast and serves beautifully.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 1/2 lbs ground beef
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can cream of mushroom soup
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 box Cheddar Bay biscuit mix
- 3/4 cup cold milk
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish so the casserole does not stick.
- Warm the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook it, breaking it up with a spoon as it browns. If needed, drain off any excess grease once the beef is cooked through.
- Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes, stirring often, until the onion softens and the garlic smells fragrant.
- Stir in the cream of mushroom soup, milk, salt, black pepper, and paprika. Mix until the filling looks smooth and creamy.
- Transfer the beef mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread it out in an even layer.
- Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top of the beef mixture.
- In a separate bowl, prepare the Cheddar Bay biscuit mix with the cold milk, following the directions on the package. Stir just until the dough comes together.
- Spoon the biscuit mixture over the casserole in even portions, covering the top as evenly as possible.
- Bake the casserole uncovered for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the biscuit topping turns golden and cooks all the way through.
- Combine the melted butter and garlic powder in a small bowl. Brush this mixture over the hot biscuit topping as soon as the casserole comes out of the oven.
- Let the casserole rest for about 5 minutes before serving so it sets up a little and slices more cleanly.
Notes
- Room temperature: Do not leave the casserole out for more than 2 hours.
- Refrigerator: Store leftovers in an airtight container for 3 to 4 days. Let the casserole cool fully before sealing it to avoid condensation.
- Freezer: Freeze for up to 2 to 3 months in a freezer-safe container. Wrap tightly in plastic wrap before placing it in a zip-top bag.
- Reheating: Warm individual portions in the microwave for 2 to 3 minutes. To reheat the full dish, cover and bake at 350°F for 25 to 30 minutes, or until hot all the way through.
