Ingredients
Scale
Bread
- 2 cups (250 g) all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ cups (300 g) granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 ¼ cups (306 g) whole milk
- 1 large egg, at room temperature
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
Spiced Sugar Topping
- ¼ cup (57 g) unsalted butter, melted
- ½ cup (100 g) granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F and lightly grease an 8.5 × 4.5-inch loaf pan with nonstick spray.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, mix the milk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla until they come together smoothly.
- Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir just until the batter is combined—keep it light to avoid a dense loaf. The batter will be thin.
- Transfer the batter to the prepared pan and spread it out evenly.
- Bake for 60–70 minutes, or until the top is golden and a toothpick inserted into the middle comes out with only a few moist crumbs.
- Let the loaf rest in the pan for about 10 minutes before lifting it out and placing it on parchment paper.
- While the bread is still warm, brush the entire surface with the melted butter for the coating.
- Mix the sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a small bowl, then generously sprinkle the mixture over the buttered loaf, turning it to cover every side. (Any extra topping can be stored for another use.)
