Ingredients
Scale
- 4 6-8 inch pita bread rounds
- 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika or smoked paprika for a smokier taste
- 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Place the pita bread rounds on a clean work surface.
- Cut each pita round into wedges or triangles, choosing your preferred size for the crispiest or slightly chewier results. Aim for even sizes to ensure uniform baking.
- In a bowl, mix the olive oil, oregano, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Place the pita chips in a large bowl, drizzle the seasoned olive oil mixture over them, and gently toss to coat each chip evenly.
- Spread the seasoned pita chips in a single layer on baking sheets. Use multiple sheets or bake in batches if necessary.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 10-12 minutes, flipping them halfway through, until the pita chips are golden brown and crispy. Keep a close eye on them to prevent overcooking.
- Once done, remove the pita chips from the oven and let them cool completely. They will continue to crisp up as they cool down.
- Once completely cooled, serve your homemade pita chips with your favorite dips, such as hummus, tzatziki, salsa, or any dip of your choice.
Notes
- Ensure the pita chips are completely cool before storing them to maintain crispiness.
- Store in an airtight container or resealable plastic bag, removing as much air as possible to prevent moisture and staleness.
- To extend the shelf life, freeze the pita chips in a freezer-safe container or bag for up to 2-3 months. Thaw at room temperature or reheat in the oven for a few minutes before serving.
