Scale
Cake & Cheesecake Swirl
- 1 box chocolate cake mix (Devil’s Food style works great)
- Ingredients listed on the box (typically eggs, oil, and water)
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
- ½ cup white sugar
- 1 egg white
Cream Cheese Frosting
- 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
- ⅓ cup butter, softened
- 2½ cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1½ tablespoons milk
- 3 peppermint candy canes, finely crushed
Instructions
- Prep the Pan: Heat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly coat a 9×13-inch baking pan with nonstick spray and set aside.
- Mix the Cake Batter: Prepare the chocolate cake batter following the package instructions. Once mixed, set it aside.
- Make the Cheesecake Swirl: In a medium bowl, beat the softened cream cheese, sugar, and egg white until smooth and creamy. This should take about 1–2 minutes with a hand mixer.
- Layer and Swirl: Pour half of the chocolate batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly. Spoon dollops of the cream cheese mixture over the batter, then gently swirl it using the back of a spoon.
- Finish the Batter Layer: Carefully pour the remaining cake batter over the top, spreading it gently so the cheesecake layer is fully covered.
- Bake: Place the cake in the oven and bake for 35–40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the cake cool completely before frosting.
- Make the Frosting: Beat the cream cheese and butter together until smooth. Gradually mix in the powdered sugar, followed by the vanilla and milk, until the frosting is light and spreadable.
- Decorate: Spread the frosting evenly over the cooled cake. Sprinkle crushed candy canes generously across the top for a festive finish.
- Serve: Slice into squares and enjoy every creamy, chocolatey, peppermint-kissed bite.
