Description
Love those cheesy, garlicky cheddar bay biscuits? This loaf brings all that flavor in a simple, slice-and-serve bread that pairs perfectly with soups, pasta, or honestly… just butter and a plate.
Ingredients
Scale
For the loaf
- 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt (regular table salt or sea salt both work)
- 2 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese (freshly grated tastes best)
- 1 large egg
- 1 cup milk (whole or 2%)
- 4 tablespoons melted butter
Garlic Butter Topping
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon dried parsley
- 4 tablespoons melted butter
Instructions
Make the Bread
- Mix the dry ingredients.
- In a medium bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Give it a quick whisk to blend everything.
- Add the wet ingredients.
- Add the cheddar, egg, milk, and melted butter to the bowl. Stir just until the mixture comes together. (The batter will be thick — that’s what you want.)
- Bake the loaf.
- Lightly grease a 9×5 loaf pan and spoon the batter into it, spreading it evenly.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 35–40 minutes, or until the top is golden and a toothpick inserted into the middle comes out clean.
- Add the topping.
- When the bread comes out of the oven, pour the warm garlic butter mixture (instructions below) over the top while the loaf is still hot. Let it sit for about 10 minutes, then remove from the pan and cool slightly before slicing.
Make the Topping
- Combine the melted butter, garlic powder, onion powder, and dried parsley in a small bowl.
- Warm in the microwave just long enough to melt the butter, then stir and pour over the hot loaf.
Notes
- Swap the parsley for Italian seasoning, rosemary, or any herbs you love.
- Add a pinch of cayenne or smoked paprika for a little heat.
- Freshly shredded cheese melts better and gives the loaf a softer texture.
