- 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
- 1 small onion, minced
- 2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
- 1 packet taco seasoning (or your own blend)
- ⅔ cup tomato sauce or salsa
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 8 hard taco shells
- 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar, Monterey Jack, or Mexican blend)
- 1 cup shredded lettuce
- ½ cup diced tomatoes
- ¼ cup diced red onion
- 2 tbsp chopped cilantro (optional)
- Sour cream, for serving (optional)
- Guacamole, for serving (optional)
- Jalapeño slices (optional)
- Hot sauce (optional)
Instructions
- Heat the Oven
- Set your oven to 400°F (200°C). Stand the taco shells upright in a baking dish so they keep their shape while baking.
- Make the Beef Filling
- Warm a skillet over medium heat and cook the ground beef with the onion until the meat browns and the onion softens. Drain off any excess grease. Add the garlic and taco seasoning, stirring for about a minute. Pour in the tomato sauce and let everything simmer together for several minutes to develop flavor.
- Fill the Shells
- Scoop the seasoned beef mixture into the taco shells, dividing it evenly. Top each shell with a generous amount of shredded cheese.
- Bake to Crispy Perfection
- Slide the dish into the oven and bake for 10–15 minutes, or until the cheese has melted and the shells turn a light golden brown.
- Finish with Fresh Toppings
- After baking, load your tacos with lettuce, tomatoes, red onion, and a sprinkle of cilantro. Serve warm with sour cream, guacamole, or anything else you love.
