If you’re new here, Rice Krispie Treats are my specialty. I love no-bake desserts, especially when they only need six ingredients and take just 10 minutes to make. I’ve tried many variations, but when I got a big box of Cocoa Puffs, I knew I had to give this a shot. They turned out SO delicious, and if you love Rice Krispie Treats, you’ve got to try this recipe!
RECIPE TIPS:
- Avoid Crushing the Mixture: When pressing the mixture into the pan, gently spread it out and lightly pat it level with a spatula or your hands. Don’t crush it down.
- Prevent Sticking: To keep the mixture from sticking to your hands, wet them with a few drops of water before handling the Rice Krispies. This will make it easier to shape the treats without them sticking. For the spatula, you can run it under water or spray it with nonstick cooking spray.
- Use a 9×13 Pan: I recommend using a pan with a lid for easy transport to parties or potlucks.
- Optional Chocolate Drizzle: Drizzle melted chocolate on top for extra flavor, or just sprinkle more mini chocolate chips if you prefer.
Cocoa Puff Marshmallow Treats
Ingredients
- 1 cup salted butter or unsalted, if you prefer
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 20 oz mini marshmallows you can use large ones, but mini melt easier
- 11 cups Cocoa Puffs
- ⅓ cup mini semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 4 oz semi-sweet chocolate for drizzling
Instructions
- **Prepare the Pan**: Line a 9×13 pan with parchment paper and lightly mist with nonstick cooking spray. Set aside.
- **Melt the Butter**: In a large pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir continuously until the butter foams up twice and begins to turn a nutty brown. Remove from heat immediately to avoid burning.
- **Add Vanilla**: Stir in the vanilla extract. The mixture will bubble, so keep stirring for about 30 seconds until it calms down.
- **Melt Marshmallows**: Add half of the marshmallows to the pot and stir until nearly melted, then add the remaining marshmallows. Stir until completely melted. Mix in the mini chocolate chips.
- **Combine with Cocoa Puffs**: Add the Cocoa Puffs 2 cups at a time, stirring lightly with a rubber spatula until well combined. Continue until all Cocoa Puffs are mixed in.
- **Press into Pan**: Pour the mixture into the prepared pan. Lightly wet your hands and gently press the mixture into the pan, spreading it to the edges without crushing it. Let set for at least 20 minutes.
- **Drizzle with Chocolate**: Melt the semi-sweet chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl in 15-second intervals, stirring in between until smooth. Let cool for 5 minutes. Drizzle over the treats with a spoon.
- **Cut and Enjoy**: Once the chocolate is set, cut the treats into squares and enjoy!
Notes
Store the treats in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
